Mundi Mundi Plains

I visited Lake Menindee, on the Darling River southeast of Broken Hill.  I had hoped to get shots of dead trees in this man-made lake, silhouetted against the setting sun.  But of course you actually need water in the lake, and there hasn’t been any for some years because of the on-going drought.  There is some water left in the main weir, and I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to capture this amazing colour and light.  It only lasted a minute or two:

I visited the old town of Silverton, west of Broken Hill.  This is the area where the Mad Max films were made back in the 1970′s.  Here’s one of the old churches:

The weather was mostly kind (given that it’s mid-winter).  Not much rain, but some dramatic skies over the red earth:

It was a fun trip, but it’s always good to get home!
